Definition
A trench is an excavation at or near surface. Geologists cut continuous samples along its floor or wall, so a trench result shows how grade behaves sideways across the ground, while a drill hole shows how it behaves with depth.
At Basin Gulch, Lannister Mining reports trench intervals of 34 to 159 meters. Combined with three drill highlights that start at surface, the trenches help trace the near-surface oxide zone in plan view as well as in section.
Silver
Silver appears in every trench highlight, from 23 to 54 g/t. The highest silver grade, 54 g/t, came with 5 g/t gold over 34 meters. That fits the setting: the property lies in the Philipsburg Mining District, which led the original US silver boom in the late 1800s.
The drill highlights Lannister Mining publishes report gold only, so the trenches are currently the clearest public view of silver at Basin Gulch.
